Archives are often thought of as just 'piles of old paper,' when in fact, their true function is much cooler than that. Simply put, an archive is a record of activities or a source of information created in various forms—be it paper, digital, video, audio, or even microfilm—that is systematically stored because it holds value for the future.
If we look at it metaphorically, archives are the 'collective memory'—whether for an organization, a nation, or an individual.
